The Events Centre, Caloundra is the Sunshine Coast’s premier performing arts and conference centre. Be inspired by the diverse conferences, events, venue and hospitality services on offer. Be entertained by the kaleidoscope of concerts, music, dance, plays and shows for all ages.
The Events Centre is one of the largest function centres on the coast with fine dining, high tech staging and equipment for large and small dinners, awards nights, conferences, theatre and special events. The venue has two theatres and dining spaces for over 1,000 patrons.
Initially named the Caloundra Cultural Centre, The Events Centre was built and officially opened in 1980 by the former Landsborough Shire Council. In December 1999 Caloundra City Council set up a task-force to investigate the concept of the Caloundra Cultural Centre being transformed into a not for profit, separate legal entity, for the purpose of managing the Centre on Council’s behalf.
The task-force was created in January 2000, completed its work and was disbanded in June 2000. It recommended the establishment of a not for profit company to manage the Centre on Council’s behalf. The major reasons given for this included:
Flexibility to operate within the market place without restrictions of the Local Government Act in terms of employment and purchasing;
Increased direct community involvement and support through membership of a board of management;
Increased opportunity to access a wider range of funding sources.
With these objectives in mind The Sunshine Coast Events Centre Pty. Ltd. was formed in January 2004 with Caloundra City Council as its sole shareholder and principle owner.
In March 2005 Caloundra Civic Cultural Centre undertook a re-branding program, creating The Events Centre, Caloundra brand. This strategy was designed to improve the Company’s competitiveness in the conference and entertainment market. The Events Centre is a registered trading name of Sunshine Coast Events Centre Pty. Ltd. So successful has been the undertaking, that other Centres in the region have adopted the “Events Centre” name into their own brand.
