Tourism Sunshine Coast

Diving

Whether you’re a seasoned diver or trying on a wetsuit for the first time, the Sunshine Coast offers some of Queensland’s best diving experiences. From shallow dive sites to the 12-meter cave dive near Noosa’s Laguna Bay, the perfect sub-tropical waters are a divers’ haven. It’s a magical underwater world of coral, tropical fish, giant Queensland gropers, turtles, rays and sharks. Wolf Rock, off Double Island Point, is thought by some to be one of Australia's top ten scuba diving destinations. The four volcanic pinnacles offer exciting diving with swim throughs, vertical gutters and overhanging ledges. And the chance to spot Grey Nurse sharks. The newest diving drawcard is the shipwreck of the ex-HMAS Brisbane - scuttled in 2006.

Fishing

The rivers, beaches, estuaries or oceans are a paradise for anglers. Mooloolah River is the spot for bream and whiting. Maroochy River’s deep cod hole south of the Maroochy River Bridge is teeming with mulloway. Noosa River offers wonderful estuary fishing for trevally and the occasional catch of barramundi. You can fish from the beach for tailor in winter and whiting, dart or dusky flathead in summer. You’ll also find some of the best off-shore fishing action in Australia. The reef system, stretching from Caloundra to north of Noosa, is abundant with snapper, spotted and spanish mackerel, coral trout, red emperor and maori cod.
